Broiled Lobster Tails with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans

I love lobster tails.  They are buttery, sweet, and simply delicious.  However, ordering them at restaurants tends to be expensive.  So, I learned how to make them at home, and they turn out perfect every time for a fraction of the price.  Yay!  Now you can enjoy a lobster meal too!  Recipe below.

I buy my lobster tails at Costco or Sprouts.  For a 5-7 oz. lobster tail, they usually cost about 7 to 8 dollars per tail. This is so much more affordable than restaurant prices:

Flemings: $57 for two tails
Ruth's Chris: $19 per add on tail ($38 for two)
Market Street Grill: $60 for two tails
Outback: $29 for two tails

Morgan's Lobster at home: $16 for two tails (with sides, a total of $20)

Broiling is my favorite way to prepare lobster tails.  The lobster meat stays soft and buttery while the edges get slightly crispy.  Plus, cooking your own lobster tails is not hard!  Once you learn how to take the meat out of the shells, the process is fast and easy.  Then, lobster is yours after 6-8 minutes in the oven.
Let me know if you make your own lobster meal at home!

Ingredients

  • Two 6 oz. lobster tails
  • 2 Tbs. butter cut into 1/2 Tbs. pats
  • 1/8 tsp. paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • Melted butter for serving
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Place oven rack into middle position in oven
  2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then turn oven to high broil
  3. Line baking sheet with tin foil and set aside
  4. Using kitchen scissors or a sharp knife, cut the top of the lobster shell down the middle to the fins
  5. Using your fingers, grab the meat of the lobster tail, and gently lift it out of the shell through the incision. The lobster meat will still be connected near the fins.
  6. Once the meat is out, push the lobster shell back together. Place lobster meat on top of the shell's incision.
  7. Down the middle of the lobster meat, make a 1/4 inch cut. Unfold the meat near the incision and open towards sides.
  8. Place lobster tails on lined baking sheet. Spread out the fins to help them stay upright
  9. Sprinkle lobster tails with paprika.
  10. Sprinkle lobster tails lightly with salt and pepper
  11. Place two pats of butter on each lobster tail.
  12. Broil lobster tails 1 minute per oz until meat is opaque or reaches 135 degrees Fahrenheit. (For 6 oz tails, it should take 6 minutes depending on your oven.)
  13. Cut meat off the shells and serve with lemon and melted butter.
